This position provides administrative and secretarial support to members of the Executive Leadership Team of the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center including the Director, Associate Director, Chief of Staff and Associate Director, Patient Care Services.
Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Answers telephones and screens visitors;
Processes incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda, White House Hotline inquiries, suspense items and other forms of written communication;
Edits and composes letters;
Schedules meetings and conferences;
Prepares meeting agendas and transcribes committee minutes;
Maintains office and administrative files;
Maintains calendars;
Serves as the senior timekeeper for the respective Chief of Staff's team;
Prepares and maintains appropriate forms for human resources actions to include preparing HR forms and SF 52's for separation, recruitments, change in pay status, change in name, etc.;
Monitors use of services, supplies, or equipment for the office; and
Performs other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm

Qualifications
Typing Proficiency: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute.
To qualify for this position at the GS-8 grade level, you must meet the following requirement:
Specialized Experience: You must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-7) in Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is performing office administration duties such as timekeeping; reception (greeting visitors and answering phones), preparing correspondence, producing reports; scheduling meetings; and transcribing meeting minutes. Note: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hour worked per week.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items like papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
