The VA New Jersey Health Care System is currently hiring for Housekeeping Leader. Located in Guest Relations Service under the Environmental Management Section, the Housekeeping Aid Leader position has an important role in ensuring that Veterans receive the highest quality health care available.
Duties
Housekeeping Aid leader include but are not limited to cleaning wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas. Housekeeping Aids sweep, mop, scrub (machine) floors, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture, empty waste baskets, clean light globes and Venetian blinds, wash walls, windows, and ceilings by climbing small ladders, refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers and move furniture. Housekeeping Aids carry out assignments with minimal supervision. Incumbent will be required to have broad knowledge of and ability to use, clean, and adjust of hand operated and industrial equipment.
Leader main duties and responsibilities:
Relay project assignments to other employees; provide equipment and supplies to accomplish task.
Initiate task or projects at a pace that will ensure completion in a planned time frame.
Ensures that employees maintain proper working techniques and standards.
Be aware of standards, policy, or methods in obtaining work-related information from the supervisor or written guidelines.
Have knowledge of and be able to perform all the duties associated within the Environmental Care Section.
Be able to interpret directions from manufactured products, follow instructions and carry. out the mission of the Service.
Maintain an even flow of work activity, assuring that each employee assigned will be productive in accomplishing tasks.
Spot check employees work as to progress quality and give the technical advice on unusual situations.
Assures that employees practice established aseptic and safety techniques and the equipment is safe and in proper working condition.
Advise the supervisor on the progress of planned goals and reports reasons for delays and recommends solutions.
Assures that all equipment is cleared at the end of the shift and that equipment and supplies are returned to storage.
Be assigned to a variety of projects, depending on the need of the customer.
Ensures that all established cleaning guidelines/procedures are followed.
Maintain time and attendance logs in supervisor's absence.
Provide training to housekeeping aids and others requested. Training may require development of material for presentation.
Document any issues that can be of help to supervisor, employees, or others.
Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The position demands continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, and pushing. The work requires the occasional use of heavy powered cleaning equipment (e.g., wall washers, industrial type buffers) weighing over 50 pounds. The duties necessitate considerable dexterity, hand, foot, and eye coordination, and concentration as well as visual acuity to see dirt, dust and debris.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed indoors with adequate heat, light, and ventilation. Some work may be performed outdoors where there may be exposed to varying degrees of heat and cold as well as inclement weather. PPE may be required in some circumstance as exposure to possible contagious diseases, blood and bloody secretion are inherent to this position. Care is required to avoid serious injuries (i.e., broken bones) when working on ladders, or when using 30-100-pound power equipment or handling hazardous materials.
Incumbent is a working leader that leads housekeeping aids under his/her control as well as performs housekeeping duties when not leading. Must be able to work under pressure. exercise flexibility in changing on type of work to another with only short notice and to meet emergencies and deadlines without undue interruption of routine. Incumbent may be required to work any established tour of duty as deemed necessary for the function of the operation.
The incumbent is subject to call back during operation. Working conditions such as ventilation and environment are satisfactory. Incumbent may be exposed to both indoor and outdoor environments. Incumbent may be subject to occasional noise, skin irritations, broken bones, cuts, and bruises. The work performed requires continuous walking when making inspections in various areas. When performing cleaning tasks, moderated effort is expected.
Must have a thorough knowledge of specialized cleaning and sanitation techniques, materials, and equipment in order to assist in the training of employees. There is a possibility of exposure to hazardous cleaning chemicals, strong cleaning solutions, bodily fluids, and communicable disease. Protective clothing and/or personal protective equipment (PPE) including gowns, gloves, safety shoes, masks, etc. will be furnished as needed.
