This position is located in the administrative section of Nursing Service at Lt. Col. Luke Weathers Jr., VA Medical Center, in Memphis Tennessee . The incumbent performs timekeeping and any related duties for employees of Nursing Service in an automated payroll system.

Duties

The large number of employees serviced (800+), the diversification of positions, intermittent employees, rotating shifts, compressed and flexible tours, and the multiple unit locations throughout the medical center contribute to the complexity of the job. The core duties of this position include but are not limited to: Ability to coordinate and organize information or activities in order to ensure work is accomplished in a timely manner. Ability to perform office operations and provide admin support (i.e., provide info regarding policy and procedures; maintaining suspense for timely follow-up; prioritizing workload; multi-tasking; orienting staff; assisting office staff). Ability to communicate with a variety of individuals, having a multitude of requests and problems. Ability to serve as a resource person for supervisors and managers concerning time and leave questions. Ability to apply rules, regulations, and procedures governing time and leave for employees, representing a broad range of pay plans and categories. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/19/2023. Proficiency Requirement: Applicants for this position must show possession of the following skills: 40 words per minute typing speed. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience in the Federal service that equips you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience is defined as: Verifying & electronically posting time and attendance records. Maintaining/editing tour of duty lists. Checking leave balances of employees to ensure accuracy. Entering electronic requests for overtime/compensatory time Demonstrating ability to understand standardized rules and regulations/procedures. Preparing reports. Using computer equipment and a variety of software applications. Communicating with a wide variety of employees and supervisors. *We will not make assumptions when reviewing applications. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed four (4) years above high school education. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED. OR, COMBINATION: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-5 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 18 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-5. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e., 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e., 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The work is sedentary. However, because of geographic location of nursing units, incumbent is occasionally required to walk distances and to climb stairs. Some standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and carrying light items may be required. Requires visual acuity and dexterity.
