Duties

You will operate trucks to transport supplies, materials, equipment and tools or to tow equipment. You will maneuver trucks over rough terrain, overimproved or unimproved roads, in close quarters and in heavy traffic on both long and short hauls. You will perform operator maintenance, such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires, and cleaning and washing vehicles. You will complete trip tickets and preventative maintenance records.

Requirements

  • Incumbent must know how to safely operate forklifts for loading and unloading of material or equipment.
  • Incumbent must possess "P" and "X" endorsements on their CDL to transport passengers and haul.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This position has a selective placement factor that will be used to screen out ineligible candidates. The selective placement factor is: You must possess a California class "B" Commercial Driver License (CDL) to operate single vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of more than 26,000 pounds, a three?axle vehicle weighing over 6,000 pounds gross, and any bus (except a trailer bus). May also tow under a class "B" CDL, a single vehicle with a GVWR of 10,000 pounds or less, and any class "C" vehicle. Incumbent may also operate class "C" vehicles that include any two-axle vehicles with a GVWR of less than 26,001 pounds, any three-axle vehicles weighing less than 6,000 pounds gross." This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision performing duties such as: Manipulating large vehicles with heavy loads, including starting, stopping, backing and driving vehicles in all types of traffic and road conditions. Making judgments concerning loading, arranging cargo, clearances, turning radius, braking distance, and distance to maintain from preceding vehicles. Recognizing hazardous road and traffic conditions, and the judgement to adjust driving methods to the practices of surrounding traffic and select alternate routes to avoid potential problems. Reading and understanding road maps and other locator documents and determine the shortest and safest route for both short and long runs. **NOTE: This experience must be fully and clearly supported in your resume.
