As a Legal Assistant (Office Automation) at the GS-0986-6, you will be part of Office of General Counsel - Legal Unit, Phoenix District Office, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. If selected, you will provide legal assistance and clerical support to the Administrative Judges (Attorney Examiners) and staff in the Units.
Duties
Coordinate scheduling of hearings. Examine and process hearing requests. Serves as an assistant by recording notes of motions and other actions, locates citations for easy reference, and identifies evidence submitted.
Duties may include but are not limited to: Explain guidance and administrative hearings proceedings, instructions on electronic processing of complaints and submission of electronic documents, and other procedural matters.
Research and apply legal regulations, techniques and procedures to perform work requiring the review of complaint files, electronic and manual processing of complaints in accordance with broadly written criteria and standardized instructions.
Assemble all pertinent documents which comprise the record of the case: e.g., complaint, hearing request, Record of Investigation (ROI), and Orders, Acknowledgement Orders, and other documents.
Assist with the preparation of discovery responses and pleadings and provide critical support functions for preparation for hearings and trials.
Requirements

- Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
- This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM).
Qualifications
For the GS-6: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing administrative and legal support functions, such as maintaining case files, documents and correspondence and providing routing guidance and information to staff, complainants and or their representatives on cases.
