This position is located in the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service at our Peoria, Illinois Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center including all clinical and other patient care areas involved with the service. The audiologist at this level plans, conducts and coordinates all aspects of diagnostic evaluation and treatment of hearing impairment
Duties
Clinical duties and responsibilities include direct patient care involving a full range of audiology evaluation and treatment services.
Conduct assessment of compensation and pension examinations, the results of which will be utilized in the assessment of hearing impairment for adjudication and medico-legal purposes when requested.
Perform special audiological procedures to determine need for medical specialist consultation and assist the otologist or neurologist in the differential diagnosis of auditory disorders.
Responsible for direct services of a remedial and sometimes preventative nature which encompass accurate selection and fitting of advanced digital hearing aids; determination of need for special earmolds (such as vented, soft plastic, skeleton, acrylic, etc.) which may be necessitated by adverse reaction to earmolds, severity of hearing loss, or other reasons; makes recommendations for procurement of special instruments such as telephone amplifiers, etc.; provides routine hearing aid inspection and repair where possible; and when requested, provides hearing threshold monitoring for patients who are taking ototoxic medications or for employees who work in noise hazardous occupations.
Supervises the activities of the hearing health technician and provides additional training when indicated. The audiologist oversees and approves coordinated scheduling of the audiology clinics.
Provide instruction to residents and interns who seek information relative to audiology as needed.
Work Schedule: Part-time, Varied Days. 3 days per week. 7:30am-4:00pm

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
Education:
Doctor of Audiology (AuD) from an audiology program recognized by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) OR
Doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the USDE. OR
Education that was completed outside the U.S and it has been submitted to a private organization specializing in the interpretation of foreign educational credentials - such education must have been deemed at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. programs. OR
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Licensure: Individuals must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a United States state, territory, commonwealth or the District of Columbia.
Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, candidates must meet the following grade-determining criteria for appointments at the GS12 grade level.
Experience: One full year of professional experience comparable to the next lower grade level (GS-11) as an audiologist such as performing audiology assessments and treatment interventions, exercising clinical judgment, adapting clinical procedures and techniques and documenting in the medical record appropriate information related to patient care.
In addition, must be able to demonstrate all of the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of principles and techniques in the assessment and treatment of auditory and balance disorders.
Ability to perform functions associated with contemporary audiology scope of practice as defined by the American Academy of Audiology or the ASHA.
Ability to interact with patients, families and other health care professionals.
Skill in determining nature, type and severity of hearing/communication /vestibular disorders.
Skill in counseling patients and family members regarding management of hearing/communication/vestibular disorders.
Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional audiology to other health care professionals.
Ability to independently apply professional contemporary audio
