About the Position: Serves as Secretary to the District Commander (DE) with responsibility as his personal assistant for a variety of administrative details relating to work of his immediate office.
This position will allow for telework. This position is NOT eligible for full-time telework.
Duties
Reviews incoming and outgoing correspondence, determining proper action.
On mail requiring personal attention of the DE, determines need for background material and obtains and assembles or briefs such material for his ready reference.
Prepares correspondence and reports, including Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and classified material, which involves frequent use of engineering and technical terminology and a variety of subject matter.
Provides guidance to District employees on schedules, meeting requests, and any procedures relating to the Executive Office.
Receives and screens telephone calls and greets visitors coming to the Executive Office, such as District staff members and employees; high ranking military and civilian, governmental, and industrial officials and others.
Composes correspondence such as letters of commendation, thank-you notes, acknowledgements, condolence, congratulatory, etc., from brief oral instructions.
Makes travel and conference arrangements, reservations, and variances, as required.
Makes necessary arrangements for the DE's travel, schedule of visits, hotel reservations; and maintains contact with the DE as appropriate while he is traveling.

Minimum Qualifications GS-07:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes maintaining appointment calendars and/or schedules for management; receiving and referring customer inquiries to appropriate parties; preparing correspondence requested by management; and formatting documents in accordance with administrative policies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
OR
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, in any degree field.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Minimum Qualifications GS-08:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes coordinating conferences, meetings, and or events for management; advising staff within the organization on administrative policies and/or appropriate procedures; and preparing a wide variety of recurring internal reports and/or documents. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, in any degree field.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond one year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors.
