About the Position: This Health Physicist position is located in the US Army Communications and Electronics Command, Directorate for Safety Rad Anal & Compl Div (ASC), at Aberdeen Proving Ground MD.

Duties

Serves as senior health physicist for the development and implementation of CECOM installation and worldwide radiation safety programs. Designated as the technical point of contact for US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licensing and control of thermal imaging systems. Conduct inspections of the Army National Guard Radiation Safety Programs to ensure compliance to NRC license requirements and DoD regulations. Provide training to qualify personnel to serve as a Radiation Safety Officer and ship Class 7, Radioactive material. Performs or directs the investigation of accidents and incidents involving radioactive materials and ionizing radiation producing devices. Perform quality assurance test on various Dental X-ray systems. Develop/review procedures for the calibration of radiation detection instrumentation and sample analysis counting equipment.

Basic Educational Requirement-Health Physicist 1306 (Transcripts Required)Degree: natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus or Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph above. In addition to the competencies, to qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do this work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) Advise on two or more radiation safety protective equipment such as sensors, detectors and decontamination equipment to support results of ionizing and nonionizing radiation evaluation; 2) Prepare evaluation plans relating to radiation hazard threats; and 3) Provide the planning of long-range radiation safety studies to minimize/eliminate radiation hazards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower pay band or grade/level in the federal service (NH-02/GS-11).
