This position is in the Patient Business Service, Ambulatory Care & Processing Section at the VA Medical Center located in Chillicothe, OH.
Duties
***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION***
Duties include but may not be limited to:
Receives calls from private physicians and non-VA hospitals during irregular duty hours furnishing information relative to authorization for emergency private hospital or other government hospital care.
Processes administrative issues surrounding beneficiary death, seriously ill cases, elopements, suicides, assaults, deaths on arrival (DOAs), homicides, code blue, code orange. medical emergencies. cost recovery matters, and facility or community disasters, etc.
Directly intervenes when problems regarding patient activity occur, advising clinical staff of appropriate administrative action.
Receives and responds to non-routine patient condition inquiries and other administrative inquiries.
During other than normal duty hours serves as an advisory resource.
Serves as Patients Funds cashier during non-administrative hours receiving and depositing funds into patients accounts and issuing receipts for deposits.
Work Schedule: Full Time; Sunday - Saturday; Rotating shifts during non-admin hours
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS 7) in Federal Service that includes performing the following duties: Interprets rules and regulations relating to determining legal entitlement to benefits relating to hospital admission, nursing home, dental, outpatient care, patient transfer.; coordinates administrative activities with other services; assures adequate coverage through call-in of support personnel; coordinates all necessary arrangements of patient transfers during non-administrative hours; tracks lab delivery and assures receipt of results in a timely manner; works with various computer programs.

EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):
Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED):
I have equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education (beyond 18 semester hours) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses directly related to the work of this position.

Physical Requirements:
The work requires much walking, sitting, standing, bending, and lifting of patient's records, clothing, and valuables. The work requires constant computer entry and receipt of multiple phone inquiries. The work consists of multiple stressors from loud and/or constant noises coming from patients waiting areas. i.e., patient conversing, family members arguing, children playing, loud playing television or radio, making it difficult to concentrate and conduct VA business without interruption. Stressors exist from difficult encounters with individuals whose level of understanding is limited, under the influence of drug/alcohol, emotional state, or cultural diversity.
