The primary purpose of this position is to operate one or more types of gas diesel or electric powered wheeled vehicles typically with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 26k and up to 32k lbs or capable of carrying 16 or more passengers regardless of GVW. Drives on public roads in a full range of traffic conditions, at highway speeds to transport cargo/passengers.

  • Licensing of federal civilian employees in overseas areas will be governed by Status of Forces Agreements and/or host nation requirements.

  • May operate a fork lift on a non-recurring or incidental basis
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

  • This position requires a physical/medical examination. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Physical effort is moderate to heavy.
  • Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing.
  • Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate Secret security clearance.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a Motor Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of more than 26,000 and up to 32,000 pounds such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, trash/garbage trucks, or dump trucks. Also includes operation of buses capable of carrying over 16 passengers. 2. Knowledge of cargo handling and hauling and techniques for safeguarding and protecting cargo. 3. Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle operation; and passenger safety rules including those regarding the use of seatbelts. 4. Ability to judge road/traffic conditions and read maps to determine the shortest and safest route. 5. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle operation, power take-off unit operation, and preventive maintenance. 6. Ability to meet pickup and delivery deadlines and schedules. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort is moderate to heavy. Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance. WORKING CONDITIONS: Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather on public roads (or equivalent), and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
