Duties
Receive incoming/outgoing shipments including new procurement, receipts, and returns.
Process and verify quantities and conditions of materials and equipment.
Load and unload trucks, or other conveyances ensuring the conveyance is suitable for safe transportation.
Material Handler loading, and unloading, and movement of roll paper stock and other material stock.
Verify receipt, storage and distribution of all materials and paper within section.
Requirements

- Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
- Selectees must pass a physical examination prior to appointment.
- Strength test may be required.
- Physical - Effort: Duties require prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching above the shoulder, and climbing. A moderate amount of hand, wrist, and arm movements is involved.
- Physical - Effort: Duties require Moderate lifting is required for objects weighing up to 80 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
- Working Conditions: Duties are performed in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated area.
- Working Conditions: The incumbent is exposed to low frequency noise generated by bindery equipment. The work is performed indoors, with no exposure to excessive heat or cold.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element, to be considered for this position. The screen-out element for this position is: Ability to perform the work of a Printing Plant Worker (Clamp Truck Operator) without more than normal supervision. (Screen Out).
This includes: Exceptional Knowledge, and skill in the movement of materials handled, such as stacking, palletization and special requirements; licensed and skilled in the function of all controls for driving clamp trucks, including other materials handling equipment of lesser capacity, such as, labor savers, double reach lift trucks, high lift fork trucks, tractors, low lift walkers, and riders (electric and LP gas)
In addition to the requirements above, GPO employees competing under merit promotion procedures must meet all of the following criteria in accordance with Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Instruction 615.2C (Appendix B): 1. Have completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacancy; AND 2. Have at least 1 year of journeyperson experience subsequent to completion of the above apprenticeship or training; AND 3. Have served a minimum of 1 year in Career or Career-Conditional appointment in the GPO.
OR
1) Have obtained a Baccalaureate Degree or three years of responsible experience in the printing industry equivalent, at a minimum, to the GPO journeyperson level, 2) Have two years of experience in the printing industry of a scope and quality sufficient to carry out the duties of the position - one year of which was at or comparable to the PG-12 level, AND 3) Have served a minimum of one year in a career or career-conditional appointment in GPO.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
