This position is located within the Finance Service at the Wilmington VA Medical Center, Wilmington, DE. The primary purpose of this position performs financial duties in the areas of consulting, authorization management, and claims review to ensure proper coordination.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties include but are not limited to: Balances and reconciles reports, statements, summaries, and trial balances with supporting accounting data on daily/weekly/monthly/yearly basis. Prepares control documents. Reviews document accuracy and regulatory compliance to ensure they are authorized in accordance with regulation. Monitor budget execution and ensuring accurate reporting of relevant data. Verifies input to computer to close accounts and provide financial statements by abstracting data from a variety of source documents. Analyzes the nature of documents, necessary subsequent actions within the branch. Understands the interrelationships of the various accounting system software packages used to research or resolve problems. Reconciles and reviews all transaction accounting classifications ensuring entries are input properly into various accounting systems. Advises Lead Accounting Technician or higher graded accountants of extraordinary or reoccurring problems. Receives, controls, validates, records and applies accounting treatment throughout the accounting cycle and to a wide variety of accounting transaction including obligations, accrued expenditures, disbursements, appropriation refunds, cost transfers, reimbursable orders, earnings, collections, expenditure vouchers, etc. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Recruitment/Relocation incentives are authorized. Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not Approved. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, all applicants must meet the following: Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in the federal service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this Accounting Technician position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes performing clerical, assistant or technician level work in support of a budget, accounting, payroll and/or financial management functions; understanding accounting principles, procedures and regulations; analyze accounting data, maintain and reconcile accounts; and prepare reports and statements. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position. Your resume must support the description selected by providing detailed documentation of the duties you have performed in positions you have held and/or training you have successfully completed. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: AccountingAccounting OperationsComplianceReasoning (Clerical/Technical) IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work of this position is primarily sedentary with some carrying of computer reports, boxes, papers and/or ledgers. The work is performed in a normal office setting.
