This position is located in the Office of the Chief Scientist/ Office of Scientific Integrity which promotes, leverages, and leads cross-cutting, collaborative activities and initiatives that catalyze FDA science, innovation, and research.
Duties
Advises and assists the Chief Scientist, Director, and other senior leaders to evaluate appeals and to reach consensus on how to address the issues raised in such appeals from a legal and policy perspective.
Prepares draft decisions and orders ruling on appeal submissions, incorporates suggested revisions from senior leaders, finalizes the decisions and orders, and ensures that they are properly published and communicated to interested parties.
Assists in efforts to initiate reforms to improve processes and/or practices for appeals, where such processes and practices may be lacking, ineffective or incomplete.

Qualifications
The position of Regulatory Counsel falls under the 0301 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-14, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 09/08/2023.
Minimum Qualifications:
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience, or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.
GS-14: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13, in the Federal service, which includes: experience in conducting research, interpreting, and applying statutes and regulations affecting scientific regulatory programs or other complex technical regulatory programs; and developing regulations, guidelines, policy, or programs that affect the regulation of dietary supplements.
