Duties
As a Supervisory Hydrologist at the CARIBBEAN FLORIDA WATER SCIENCE CENTER, some of your specific duties will include:
Serve as senior advisor to Water Science Center Associate Director and principal liaison with public officials, scientific personnel and general public regarding the operation of the data collection networks in the Water Science Center.
Approval leave, resolve simple employee complaints, answer questions related to procedures, policies, directives, etc.
Make recommendations for promotions, reassignments, and personnel needs (training, etc.), and responsible for recruiting and hiring.
Determine appropriate techniques and equipment needs for an extensive network consisting of numerous and varied collection sites to assure consistency with current budget and human resources availability.
Provide direction to the development and continuing improvements of the instrumentation and techniques that facilitate the collection and presentation of accurate and timely records.
Review proposals for the expansion of the data collection networks and provides feedback concerning the operations of these networks.
Operate a motor vehicle as an incidental driver.
Qualifications
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Hydrologist, all grade levels.
A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours or the equivalent in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in physics.

B. A combination of education and experience-course work as shown in "A" above (30 semester hours or the equivalent in any combination of courses as specified in "A" above which must include at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in physics), plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above. FOR GS-13 - In addition to the basic education requirement as stated above, applicants must have one year of appropriate professional experience in hydrology that is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service.
Examples of such experience include planning, executing and reporting on original hydrologic studies or ongoing hydrologic studies requiring a fresh approach to resolve new problems. The complexity of this work typically required extensive modification and adaptation of standard procedures, methods, and techniques, and the development of totally new methods and techniques to address novel or obscure problems for which guidelines or precedents were not substantially applicable. At this level, Hydrologists have extensive knowledge of the principles of hydrology and highly developed ability in their application, and wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment to perform scientific work of marked difficulty and responsibility.
