This position serves as a Supply Technician at the James A. Lovell FHCC, North Chicago, IL and is responsible to assure that adequate supplies are on hand to provide prosthetic equipment to patients.

Duties

Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Supply Management (65%) Maintains stock at clinical areas located throughout the hospital for non-recurring clinical prosthetic items. Monitors expiration dates, rotates stock to limit outdates and removes items from use as required by outdates. Checks inventory for stock identified for recalled items and hazard alerts; ensures critical supplies are appropriately monitored and controlled, resolving deviations when possible, and escalating significant deviation to the supervisor. Performs routine inventory checks by using bar coding equipment on a predetermined schedule that will allow for timely replenishment orders. Delivers supplies to other clinic locations in a timely and accurate manner, ensuring supplies and materials delivered are in sterile and operational condition. Incumbent may be required to travel off station to contracted vendor to count inventory and review PAR levels. Purchasing (20%) Using the VISTA software package, 1FCAP, purchase cards, incumbent is responsible for placing the orders in a timely manner to replenish stock levels. Purchase card transactions are to be reconciled within the mandated ten work day timeframe and all invoices and accompanying documents are properly filed away. Orders are placed directly to vendors, DALC, contracted and commercial vendors. Incumbent must, be familiar with the Federal Supply Schedule, blanket purchase agreements and current PSAS contracts with various vendors. Office Automation Work/Customer Service (15%) Processes incoming/outgoing mail, including the processing of express mail. General mail handling and distribution for incoming or outgoing mail including sorting, opening, stamping, classifying, processing and routing mail. Sorts outgoing mail and checks for presence of indicated disclosers. Screens outgoing materials for proper format to ensure they are assembled and addressed in accordance with appropriate restrictions. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/15/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Specialized experience includes: providing supplies and material to clinical and administrative areas of a complex health care facility; scanning, bar-coding, receiving, storing and distributing medical and surgical supplies, instruments and other material; pulling stock, replenishing stock and maintaining records on stock levels; monitoring expiration dates; cleaning assigned areas in accordance with aseptic principles; utilizing an automated system to maintain inventory; and answers customer questions regarding supplies and materials. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR, Combination: Possess an equivalent combination of specialized experience and post high school education as described above that demonstrates ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Analysis and Problem SolvingAttention to DetailComputer SkillsCustomer Service Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent reaching, bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). With proper assistance, moves heavier items weighing over 40 pounds. This level of physical demands occurs, for example, when employees are regularly assigned to activities such as tracing misplaced items or conducting physical inventories in warehouses, and other storage areas, or when they are regularly involved in stocking and retrieving items from shelves and cabinets.
