This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Ensures appropriate team assignment for consults and same day access patients. Liaison between all Behavior Medicine Service (BMS) clinics/teams to effectively coordinate services. Effectively collaborates with all inpatient and outpatient BHSL disciplines to ensure continuity of care. Develops, implements, and supports novel outpatient services both F2F and via telehealth. Provides clinical consultation for complex cases. Resolves patient and staff complaints. Administrator supervisor for BHIP personnel. Responsible for completing OPPEs, FPPEs, and performance appraisals for BHIP personnel including insuring that chart reviews are done by shared disciplines. Chairs regularly scheduled BHIP meetings and huddles. Provides outpatient clinical care including a full range of assessment and psychiatry services. The within the Behavioral Health. Adheres to operational policies and procedures for the treatment team. Performs ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of the Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinic. Regularly reviews SAIL performance metrics with the Chief, Behavioral Health and Behavioral Health Leadership Team Reviews SAIL data and key performance metrics with clinical staff to facilitate discussion and identification of opportunities to improve performance Develops action plans for improvement of SAIL and other performance metrics across entire clinic. Facilitates liaisons with other health care programs to effectively coordinate services for Veterans served in Behavioral Health. Assists with the hiring and orientation of all staff within the Behavioral Health. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs clinical work describing human behavior, determining the reasons for that behavior and predicting and/or modifying the behavior. Performs psychiatric evaluations, and treatment of patients with problems of personality, emotional adjustment, or mental illness. Prescribes medications as deemed necessary for the treatment of mental illnesses. Promotes, supervises, and/or performs psychotherapy with patients, either through individual sessions or through group therapy sessions. Uses therapeutic techniques. Based on data gathered through assessments, plans an appropriate clinical treatment for individual patients. Recommends appropriate therapy based on precedent and standards of the profession. Therapy recommended is appropriate for the diagnosis involved and is considered among the most effective for the common condition involved. Develops a comprehensive treatment plan for a wide range of abnormal behaviors. Treatment includes adjusting therapy for the differential diagnosis of functional or organic disorders. Prepares and presents a formal treatment plan to the multi-disciplinary team. Promotes a psychotherapeutic atmosphere among the professional treatment staff. Conducts psychotherapy in difficult, multifaceted cases. OTHER SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves on Medical Center or Healthcare System, VISN, and/or National VA committees or task forces. Represents Psychology on decision-making committees at the Medical Center or Healthcare System. Actively participates in leadership roles on local, state, and national professional organizations. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Experience in the VA Mental Health Service. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: This position is predominately a clinical/administrative position. The clinical component of this position provides direct services to patients and their families through casework. Incumbents must be physically and mentally able to efficiently perform the essential functions of the position without hazard to themselves or others. Normal work of the position requires visual acuity (with the ability to read typewritten characters without strain, corrective lenses permitted), keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially moderate levels of lifting and carrying (15-44 pounds). The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders.

Education

1. Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
2. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
3. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. [If the applicant does not claim an ECFMG certificate, facility officials must still confirm that the medical school meets (or met) ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year the candidate graduated.]
