You will serve as a HEALTH SYSTEM SPECIALIST in the DON Chief Bureau of Medicine and Surgery of NMRTU GROTON CT.
This announcement uses the Expansion of Direct Hire Authority Personnel of the Department of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
Duties
You will counsel military personnel on their rights, benefits, privileges and obligations related to the Disability Evaluation System (DES).
You will monitor healthcare system for possible case delinquencies.
You will ensure production and accuracy requirement are met for healthcare systems.
You will collect demographic information on all personnel enrolled in the DES program and tracking the progress of the medical board throughout the facility.
You will apply Information Technology principles, concepts and methods to complete daily tasks related to healthcare systems.
Requirements

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require overtime work occasionally.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Working with federal medical agencies such as Medical Evaluation Boards, Physical Evaluation boards or similar medical agencies to ensure beneficiaries information is delivered timely;
Interpreting and applying complex federal policies and regulations to counsel and resolve individual disability cases/claim;
Counseling members that are being processed through the Disability Evaluation System on their rights, privileges, benefits and obligations;
Coordinating evaluation appointments, assisting in preparing appeals, and rebuttals for service members;
Using various healthcare systems to enter medical information; ensuring accuracy and timeliness while monitoring the system of delinquent cases.
GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Assisting with gathering, assembling, consolidating and analyzing facts and drawing conclusions;
Reviewing reports in healthcare systems to verify accuracy of data and making corrections/edits as necessary;
Analyzing healthcare data from reporting systems;
Preparing and presenting findings and making recommendations.

SUCCESSFUL completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.

SUCCESSFUL completion of one full year of graduate level education OR you have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement OR you have a combination of education and experience that equates to one year of experience.
