This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Student Rights Specialist you will be responsible for investigating and responding to alleged student misconduct, notifying the campus regarding incidents and preparing the Annual Security Report, advocating for student rights and preventative programming for all students, and working on office administration tasks.

Duties

As a Student Rights Specialist GS-0301-9, your typical work assignments may include the following: Serves as the first point of contact for the reporting of all concerning incidents or suspected violations of the law or of the Haskell Student Code of Conduct that occur on campus or among Haskell students while off campus. Investigates allegations of student crimes or Code of Conduct violations, coordinating with Campus Security officers and/or the Lawrence Police Department where appropriate. Informs the Haskell campus community within hours whenever a crime or imminent threat is reported on or near the Haskell campus by circulating a notification, which may need to include details about the event or a description of possible suspects. Distributes a copy of the Student Code of Conduct to every new student every semester and makes updates to the Code of Conduct as needed to reflect changes in relevant law or local administrative or policy changes at Haskell. Uses a personal computer to perform assignments, including the routine reception and processing of digital incident reports. Qualifications

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: GS-9:Applicant possesses one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped me with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service that includes: employment in the area of student conduct at a school or university, Clery reporting, conducting investigations, and counseling in the areas of trauma or conflict mediation. OR Applicant possesses master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. (You must submit a copy of your transcripts to support this response.) OR Applicant possesses a combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience that may be used to meet total qualification requirements for the grade levels specified in the table, and may be computed by first determining the applicant's total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the applicant's education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. Only graduate education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be used to qualify applicants for positions at grades GS-9 and GS-11. (When crediting education that requires specific course work, prorate the number of hours of related courses required as a proportion of the total education to be used.) SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.

Education

All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Education must have been obtained from an accredited or pre-accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the above requirements if you can show that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
