This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Shortage Category and/or Critical Needs Position to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Performs law enforcement work to maintain law and order, preserve the peace, protect life and civil rights, detect and investigate crimes, arrest or apprehend violators, and perform patrols within the jurisdiction of the military installation.
Duties
Perform duties as a Police Officer on a variety of fixed and mobile posts, to enforce safety regulations and local laws as necessary.
Conduct investigations of accidents, suspicious activities, security breaches and crimes to determine criminal activity.
Recognize, collect, preserve and mark evidence for use in investigations and prosecutions.
Maintain vigilance against acts of sabotage, espionage, theft, violence, and infractions of rules at assigned posts.
Enforces traffic regulations, investigates traffic accidents and reroutes traffic in emergency situations, issues warning, tickets or summons.
Requirements
- The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Must undergo initial and periodic psychological evaluations to determine physical, emotional, and mental stability to perform assigned duties.
- Must pass, prior to hiring, as well as annually, the physical agility test, IAW AR 190-56. Must pass periodic medical examinations, manual dexterity, and meet established hearing and vision standards.
- Must obtain and maintain current required certification in CPR techniques and First Aid.
- This position authorizes the incumbent to carry a firearm. Must be proficient in the use of and qualify annually with assigned duty weapons.
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
- Personnel are required to sign DA Form 5019-R. Personnel must pass initial drug screening prior to hiring and will be subject to random drug testing thereafter.
- IAW AR 190-56 this position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP). Personnel must meet the standards for the IRP Program.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state drivers license.
- Incumbent is required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. May be required to work overtime on an emergency basis.
- Incumbent must wear uniform and maintain high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Incumbent must meet initial and annual Law Enforcement training and re-certification.
- Incumbent must have successfully graduated from and possess a graduation certification from a Dept. of Defense, Federal agency, or State Police Academy, or be able to obtain a certification from such an academy within one year of employment.
- Incumbent must meet all physical and security requirements of the position. Incumbent will be required to wear personal protective equipment, to include Air Purifying Respirators (APR).
- Incumbent must be able to wear chemical protective equipment IAW AR 50-6 Army Chemical Surety Program. Incumbent will be required to wear Level II or better Body Armor in accordance with AR 190-56.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercise of arrest authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Position is designated mission essential and subject to 24-hour recall. Must be trained and physically capable of doing crisis management operations.

Specialized ExperienceGS-06: To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal Service performing the following duties: 1) Enforcing laws, regulations, policies, standards or procedures; 2) Protecting the health, safety, privacy or best interest of the public, staff or others who may be at risk; and 3) Completing checklists and contingency actions in responding to incidents, emergencies, or hostile/potentially hostile actions.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
