The primary purpose of this position is to perform periodic scheduled preventive maintenance, investigative and diagnostic troubleshooting, and remedial maintenance on one or more types of commercial laundry/dry cleaning equipment.
Duties
- Laundry/ Dry cleaning equipment maintenance & repair.
- Performs periodic scheduled Preventive Maintenance and Care.
- Maintains records and documents actions.
- Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a LAUNDRY AND DRY-CLEANING EQUIPMENT REPAIRER without more than normal supervision.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of laundry and dry-cleaning equipment repair, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance techniques and procedures and the ability to perform repairs, preventative maintenance and recognize developing maintenance problems.
2. Knowledge of and skill in troubleshooting/repair of state-of-the-art computer-controlled laundry equipment (i.e., Continuous Batch Washer System), consisting of microprocessor-based programmable controllers and various interfacing electronically interconnected components and peripheral devices.
3. Knowledge of and skill in interpreting safety regulations and applying safety practices and procedures.
4. Skilled in the use and maintenance of powered and manual tools.
5. Ability to interpet laundry equipment operator manuals, repair manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
6. Ability to communicate (read, write, speak) effectively in English language.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequent lifting of parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds is required and may occasionally lift and carry heavier items weighing up to 50 pounds. Position requires stooping, standing, bending, stretching and working in tiring, cramped, uncomfortable positions over and under laundry equipment for sustained periods of time.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed inside in areas that are adequately lighted, but work environment is normally hot, humid, wet, and dirty. Floor and deck surfaces are sometimes uneven, wet and slippery. Frequently exposed to moving objects and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts, scrapes, sprains and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. Occasionally, climbs and works from ladders and stagings, causing exposure to possibility of serious injury from slipping and falling. Dirt, grease, and dampness are frequently encountered. Various protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes, and glasses are used.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
