About the Position: Crane Army Ammunition Activity (CAAA) mission statement: To receive, store, ship, produce, renovate and demilitarize conventional ammunition, missiles and related components to meet contingency requirements in support of the warfighter. This position will be filled on a temporary basis.

Duties

Use conventional machine tools and Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machine tools to manufacture parts and end items from raw stock (e.g., rough castings, bar stock) of different kinds of metals and metal alloys. Lay out work from blueprints, drawings/sketches, oral instruction, work orders, models of parts to be made, or other specifications using material specifications, dimensions, and tolerances to complete the work. Apply shop mathematics and handbook formulas to compute and establish dimensions for planning and laying out work. Install cutting and shaping tools (e.g., drills, reamers, forming tools, counter bores, turning tools, adjustable dies and taps, cut-off tools, milling cutters). Produce various metal component parts and ammunition-related component parts. Use a variety of handheld measuring tools, to include rules, Vernier calipers, inside and outside micrometers, dial indicators, surface gauges, thread gauges, and height gauges.

Qualifications

If you are a current Army employee, this position will be filled from employees eligible for temporary promotion or temporary reassignment. The position is temporary not-to-exceed 1 year and may be extended up to the maximum time of 5 years. This position is temporary and may be made permanent for current Army employees only. The work of the position normally includes performing machining operations using both conventional and Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machine tools; setting up and operating a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders and saws; interpreting blueprints, drawings and sketches; and knowledge of the use of tooling required to produce the features, tolerances and surface finishes to specifications. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility To Use Hand Tools for Machine ShopAbility To Use Shop DrawingsKnowledge of MetalsOperation of Machine ToolsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Physical Effort: The work of the WG-10 Machinist requires standing, stooping, bending, reaching, frequent handling of objects weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally objects weighing as much as 40 pounds. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. Working Conditions: Works in a well-lighted, heated, ventilated shop with concrete floors. Exposed to dust from grinding, oil from machines, dirt, heat, noises, and fumes. Subject, to the hazards of burns from hot metal chips, dust, cuts, bruises, injury to hands from use of machines and hand tools, skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, abrasive compounds, and strains from infrequent moving, lifting, and handling of heavy items. Wears safety glasses, safety shoes, and other safety apparel and equipment as required. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of the job and environmental differential is not warranted for the duties performed.
