This position is located in the Fiscal Service at VA Amarillo Health Care System - Thomas E. Creek VA Medical Center in Amarillo, TX. The Accounting Technician provides clerical, assistant, or technician level support from within and Administrate Office of from within a functional component such as the Human Resources Office, the Budget Office, the Purchasing Office, or a comparable setting.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** The Accounting Technician is responsible for performing clerical, assistant, or technician level work in support of a budget, accounting, auditing, payroll, fiscal, and/or financial management function; and performing budget administration support, financial Performs budget administration support, financial systems support, payroll, cash process, voucher examination, or accounting technician work. Major duties and responsibilities include but not limited to: Examining, verifying, and maintaining financial accounts and accounting data and classifying accounting transactions including the verification of the accuracy and completeness of the accounting data Determining the general ledger accounts, journals, and subsidiary accounts affected, and the debit and credit entries to be made Summarizing transactions and prepares control documents or other posting documents reflecting the entries to be made Maintaining, auditing, and reconciliating the general and subsidiary ledger accounts, for the preparation of accurate and timely reports, and for the control of funds Determining the nature of errors and makes adjustments in the correct appropriation to a variety of interrelated accounts Researching, interpreting, and verifying which appropriation and general ledger accounts a document and subsequent accounting transaction will affect Establishing routines for input of these transactions Preparing reconciliations of the general ledger to subsidiary accounts, accruals, adjusting journal entries, accounting reports and special reports Reconciling accounting systems output with input for accuracy Maintaining control of receipts and disbursements and control of funds obligated and funds expended Ensuring the timely preparation of all reports for Dept of Treasury, agency HQ, and local management Analyzing general ledger accountings to ensure accurate reports Analyzing documents for accuracy and authorization Documenting financial transaction to assure a proper audit trail Assigning transactions that will have the proper accounting effect Reviewing pending items and ensures that follow up action is taken on all items pending for excessive periods of time Work Schedule: Monday to Friday; 08:00 a.m. to 04:30 p.m. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Minimum Requirement: The following are minimum requirements for appointment as an Accounting Technician in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), which all applicants must met. Specialized Experience (GS-07): You must have one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (i.e., GS-06). Qualifying examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: performing clerical, assistant, or technician level work in support of accounting, budget, or other financial management function; applying knowledge of various accounting, budget, or other financial regulations, laws, and requirements; utilizing computer programs such as Microsoft office and/or automated accounting/budget systems. (CLEAR DETAILS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must show complete information for each job entry, such as beginning and ending dates of employment, duties performed, and/or total hours worked per week.) You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Accounting OperationsAnalytical ThinkingAttention to DetailFinancial Systems IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary with some carrying of computer reports, boxes, and ledgers.
