This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Protective Service (FPS). The primary purpose of this position is to prevent, protect, respond to, and recover from terrorism, criminal acts, and other hazards threatening the US Government's critical infrastructure, services, and the people who provide or receive them. Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.

Duties

As a Deputy Security Director, GS-1801-14, your typical work assignments may include: Interviewing candidates for vacant positions and make recommendations for appointments, promotions, or reassignments. Directing and participate in the full range of security and administrative investigations and related support activities performed within the Region interfacing with senior managers to coordinate ongoing or upcoming security. Ensuring effective and economical utilization of existing and proposed resources to provide security planning and advisory services to federal agencies within the context of their respective agency missions. Meeting with selected HQs senior managers and other FPS Regional Directors to develop and recommend national criteria to be applied in the standardization of procedures and execution of programs consistent with the intent of Congress. Administering comprehensive physical security surveys designed to evaluate and determine staffing and related security requirements for protecting personnel and property. Qualifications

Specialized Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: Evaluating agency requests from throughout the region for security; Providing protection and enforcement advisory services to police officers and inspectors and all federal agencies within the region; Managing the performance of security surveys, including determinations of buildings and other sites with extraordinarily complex or unusual security conditions. Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level. You must also meet the following: Pre-employment Medical Requirements: Prior to appointment, you must be determined physically fit by an authorized government physician to perform strenuous and physically demanding duties which may include protecting citizens, taking suspects into custody using reasonable physical force in the face of physical resistance and responding to situations requiring physical agility and quick and legally sufficient decision making. Also successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination (which includes, but is not limited to vision, hearing, cardiovascular and mobility of extremities) given by an authorized government physician. This position may be subject to periodic incumbent examinations in the future. Motor Vehicle Operation: You must possess a valid automobile driver's license at the time of appointment and be available for frequent travel. Lautenberg Amendment: This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position. Firearms Requirement: The incumbent must carry firearms and maintain proficiency in their care and use in accordance with FPS policy and standards. PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTING: This position requires a pre-employment drug test, and you must have a negative drug test result before appointed into the position. RANDOM DRUG TESTING: The incumbent of this position is subject to random drug testing. Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement. Note: Current or former Federal employees MUST submit a copy of their SF-50 Form which shows competitive service appointment ("position occupied" block 34 on the SF-50 should show a "1"), tenure group (block 24 should show a 1 or 2), grade, and salary. If you are applying for a higher grade, please provide the SF-50 Form which shows the length of time you have been in your current/highest grade (examples of appropriate SF-50s include promotions, With-in Grade/Range Increases, and SF-50s dated a year apart within the same grade/job). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL: This position may be designated as essential personnel. Essential personnel must serve during continuity of operation events without regard to declarations of liberal leave or government closures due to weather, protests, acts of terrorism, or lack of funding. Failure to report for or remain in this position may result in disciplinary or adverse action in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations (5 USC ? 7501-7533 and 5 CFR Part 752, as applicable). Current or Former Political Appointees: The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
