This position is located in Region II, Division of Reactor Safety, Engineering Branch 1.  The supervisor is James Baptist.  This position is in the Bargaining Unit with the National Treasury Employees Union, Chapter 208. This position requires up to 40% travel.This position is subject to Confidential Financial Disclosure and security ownership reporting requirements.

Duties

The successful candidate will perform the full range of Senior Reactor Inspector duties.Such duties include but are not limited to:1. Performing and leading engineering inspections within RII with a focus on Design Basis Assurance and Modifications to ensure licensee compliance with provisions of NRC rules and regulations designed to maintain safety. 2. Performing/leading as well as evaluating incidents of abnormal conditions, determining the safety significance of each event and recommending enforcement actions3. Serving as technical expert and NRC representative, in the conduct of assessments and in meetings with licensees, state and local officials and the media.4. Assisting in the implementation of Commission regulatory policies, procedures, criteria and guides for licensing and inspection programs.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:1. Demonstrated ability to inspect nuclear power plant engineering and operations activities and to understand and apply associated regulations, codes, and standards, and quality assurance requirements.2. Demonstrated ability to identify findings of significance and evaluate complex regulatory and technical issues associated with nuclear power plant engineering and operations, and allegations, and to resolve such issues within the framework of NRC regulations, enforcement policy, the significance determination process, and the allegation policy.3. Demonstrated ability in oral and written communications.  Particular emphasis is placed upon the importance and level of challenge of the communications and the ability to encourage/gain consensus in a diplomatic manner. 4. Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision and the ability to provide leadership for others, including providing guidance/direction to others to ensure appropriate focus/scope of activities and the correct resolution of difficult or complex problems. 5. Demonstrated ability to serve as a mentor and coach to inspectors on his/her team and in the development of new inspectors and the ability to provide guidance to new inspectors in the qualification and cross qualification process.In addition to the basic requirements, to qualify for this position you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is defined as demonstrating knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of nuclear engineering or other engineering disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, or structural as applied to the degree in engineering or experience that has been or would be eligible for certification as equivalent through professional registration procedures.A description of how you possess the specialized experience as well as how you meet the qualifications desired in an ideal candidate should be addressed in your resume.

Education

Candidates must possess a bachelor's or higher degree in professional engineering, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating a thorough knowledge of principles, theories, and practices in the field of engineering.
