About the Position: The incumbent serves as the Chief, Audiology Services and Army Hearing Program Manager at the Ft. George G. Meade (FGGM) MEDDAC Audiology Center of Excellence (MACE). The hours of work are 0730-1630 EST. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Perform continuing medical, technical and administrative oversight and is responsible for organizing and implementing all elements of the FGGM MEDDAC Army Hearing Program. Communicate with MEDDAC I Commander and Subordinate Commanders on issues relating to Hearing Readiness, Clinical Hearing Services, Operational Hearing Services and Hearing Conservation. Develop new approaches and methods of problem solving and evaluation, and provide advice, guidance and direction to the establishment of policy and objectives related to the Army Hearing Program within FGGM MEDDAC. Determine work priorities and personnel requirements, organize work schedules, assign and review work, instruct subordinates in work techniques and priorities. Manage all clinical operations including patient appointment and clinician templates and schedules, and coorrdinate training for MACE and clinical staff. Prepare and update policies for the Audiology Clinic which meet standards of the American Speech- Language- Hearing Association (ASHA) and the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Evaluate the most difficult, involved and complicated patients with communication disorders. Serve as Chief Clinical preceptor for the US Army Externship Program (AEP) externs who are house at the National Military Audiology and Speech Pathology Center).

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 1 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • A Childcare Background Check (CNACI) is required. This position has a specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require contact with children.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Basic Requirement for Audiologist: Education: Successful completion of a graduate or higher level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice. The education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts with your application package). License: A full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (You must provide a copy of your license as part of your application package). In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of experience which performing audiology diagnostic screening assessments, developing treatment plans for patients, and providing education to patients or staff. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
