About the position: This position will be assigned at Outdoor Recreation at Barksdale AFB, LA. This is a Regular Full Time (RFT) position with 35 guaranteed hours per week and benefits (medical, dental, life insurance, retirement, 401(k), and annual/sick leave).

Duties

Works under the direct supervision of the Outdoor Recreation Director. Plans, develops, coordinates and conducts a variety of classes (e.g., hiking, nature walks, horseback riding and bicycling), and trips in support of a diverse outdoor recreation program (individual and group). Within the overall plans developed, selects activities and services to be offered in addition to required basic programs. Schedules, publicizes, and promotes various classes, trips, and other activities. Ensures compliance with state and local agencies and their regulatory requirements. Develops and implements procedures to monitor, track and document program effectiveness and success. Reports progress and make recommendations on program planning, coordination and follow-up procedures to the Outdoor Recreation Director. Maintains and prepares the required paperwork to contract instructors. Acts as the coordinator for the Base Trail/Rec-On Programs and Single Airman Initiative. Monitors and tracks complaints to evaluate and ensures quality service and client satisfaction. Monitors the condition and inventory of equipment and supplies used to support the outdoor recreation program. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and assists in repairing and maintaining all recreation equipment assigned to Outdoor Recreation. Assists the Outdoor Recreation Manager in providing transportation/vehicle support to the Outdoor Recreation and Fam Camp. Additional duties include but not limited to; seasonally acting as the Pool Supervisor, hiring seasonal lifeguards, training, maintenance of the pool and its equipment, maintaining the AF Form 708 swimming pool operational log and AF Form 2043 attendance and program record. Seasonally provide and facilitate swimming lessons, and other instructional swimming programs. Distributes and balances workload in accordance with established directives. Ensures lifeguards practice and follow resource protection standards in compliance with established procedures (safety). Observes swimming areas to ensure safety of patrons. Using a variety of techniques such as artificial respiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid; rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning and promptly renders first aid to injuries. When needed, calls for professional medical assistance. Ensures lifeguards warn swimmers of unsafe environmental health conditions or hazard and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail. Maintains a current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, and directives, and obtains needed information or decisions from Outdoor Recreation Director on problems. Takes initiative to resolve problems and conflicts. Works with other functional activities (i.e., golf, bowling etc.) in coordination of events. Maintains and reports revenue and expenditure financial information to the Resource Management Branch and Community Services Flight Chief to ensure information is properly recorded and reported. Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • The incumbent must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical.
  • The incumbent must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license/driver's license.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Progressive experience of the principles, concepts and techniques of the outdoor recreation program/programming, which would have been gained in position at a campground, recreation sales or a comparable business. Experience must be documented in the outdoor recreation field (i.e., First Aid, CPR, Water Rescue). Must be able to perform maintenance on a variety of recreational equipment. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Supervision experience should be at a sufficient level to ensure know how and why tasks are performed and to ensure work is performed efficiently and effectively. Experience which demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and deal effectively with individuals or groups. Must be able to lift, handle and carry objects up to 50 pounds and with assistance, objects up to and over 60lbs. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
