New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park is seeking an Administrative Support Assistant to provide administrative support to the Administrative Officer. Though this location will sit in New Bedford, MA the incumbent will also be assisting the same Administrative Officer at Roger Williams National Memorial in Providence, RI and Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park in Pawtucket, RI.

Duties

Provides accurate and reliable information on the administrative functions of the parks. Interacts with managers, supervisors, and staff members on matters related to administrative services by attending meetings and serving on appropriate work teams/groups. Collects data for the parks' operating budget, consolidates material into an annual unit budget; sets up controls to monitor expenses during the year. Serves as advisor to the parks on procedures for the procurement of goods and services, and within delegated authority purchases supplies, equipment, and services for the organization utilizing a purchase card, or a blanket purchase agreement under micro-purchase authorities. Provides human resources information and assistance to the parks. In that regard assists with the preparation of position descriptions and organizational charts and prepares Requests for Personnel Action. Responsible for the administrative oversight of various administrative processes, which may include processing financial, procurement, property, human resources, and other administrative forms or documents for the parks.

SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs skill of a qualified typist with the ability to type at least consistently and accurately 40 words per minute. Words per minute are based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors is required. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - GS-06 EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: performing a wide variety of advanced administrative functions such as coordinating payroll, preparing and entering personnel actions, coordinating travel arrangements, managing a procurement system, and preparing, tracking, and reconciling an organization's budget. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
