Duties

VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. The Department of Surgery at the V.A. Boston Healthcare System (VABHS) is soliciting applications for the full-time position of Chief of the Section of podiatry at the VABHS. Podiatry covers 3 major campuses and one community clinic, has a high outpatient volume and elective and acute surgical cases at 2 campuses. Trainees from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Podiatry Residency Program rotate at VABHCS with the VA Podiatry Section an integral part of the Surgical training program. Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday Financial Disclosure Report: Not required

Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Podiatrist Basic Requirements Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~ Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Candidates with at least 10 years of practice should have an outstanding record, have demonstrated excellence in leading clinical, research, and training programs. U.S. Citizenship, a DPM degree and an unrestricted license in any state, and board certification in forefoot as well as reconstructive rearfoot and ankle are required. Fellowship training in rearfoot and ankle reconstruction including Total Ankle Joint Replacement, as well as training in complex diabetic limb salvage, are highly desirable. References: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-4 Podiatrist Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. This is a designated drug testing position. After appointment, you will be subject to random testing for illegal drug use. Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approx. 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted.
