This position is part of the TX Public Affairs Office, and is located in Austin, Camp Mabry, Texas. he primary purpose of the position is to collect, assemble, prepare and disseminate information concerning the various activities of the state's NG.
Duties
As a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST (TITLE 32) with the Texas National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:
Develops news releases and feature articles describing Guard sponsored activities or events, presentation ceremonies, etc. Distributes these to local and national print and broadcast media representatives.
Evaluates local media programming on NG events, activities or communication campaigns to identify potential public relation issues with message content or format.
Consults with the pertinent program specialist to obtain the latest information for use in news releases, radio spots, print articles, meetings and electronic broadcasts.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-1035-09 grade level your resume must include relevant experience/education with beginning and ending dates reflecting the following:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
specialized experience at the next lower grade level (GS-07) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector which has provided an experience, education, or training involving knowledge of writing, communication principles, methods and techniques that relate to the public affairs of an agency. Experience in applying and adapting knowledge of strictly controlled situations of an agency. Experience writing articles on routine events of non-controversial subjects. Experience responding timely and appropriately to requests for information concerning agency programs and services. Experience participating in meetings with specialized groups to listen to and understand feedback on agency programs that are of particular interest to public.
Or
A Master's or equivalent graduate degree
Or
2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree
Or
LL.B. or J.D., if related
Preferred Qualifications: Public Affairs Certification through the Defense Information School (DINFOS)

Education
Graduate Education:Education at the graduate level in an accredited college or university in the amounts shown in the Qualifications meets the requirements for positions at GS-7 through GS-11. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements as a GS-09, by determining total qualifying experience as a percentage required for the grade level; then determining education as a percentage required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages to total 100 percent.
