Duties

As a Seized Property Specialist, at the full performance level, you will perform the following duties: Provide custody, management and disposition of seized or forfeited property; Oversee the receipt, security and transportation of all types of seized or forfeited property (i.e. controlled substances, currency and firearms); Witness or supervise the destruction of seized or forfeited property (i.e. narcotics); Arrange for the transfer or temporary safekeeping of seized or forfeited property prior to its release for storage and disposition to a contractor.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
  • You must successfully pass a background investigation.
  • You must successfully pass a drug screen.
  • Males born after 12/31/59 must certify registration with Selective Service.

  • Time in Grade: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade in the Federal service. Time in grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.
  • Medical Requirements: You must be physically, emotionally, and mentally able to perform the duties of the position. You will be required to complete a physical to the satisfaction of the U.S. State Department.
  • Firearms Requirement: You will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties of this position. Maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory.
  • This position requires the selectee to carry a firearm. Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition (Title 18, U.S.C. Section 022 (g)(9)).
  • Motor Vehicle Operation: You must possess a valid automobile driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Training: Completion of five week Seized Property Specialist training at Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), Glynco, GA is mandatory.

You qualify for the GS-09 grade level if you possess one of the following: Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: Providing support to a seized property management function by locating physical storage facilities; Accounting for seized property through an automated system; Preparing reports for management or court cases. OR Education: A master's degree (or equivalent graduate degree such as a L.L.B/J.D.) or 2 academic years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of successfully completed education and experience. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application. You qualify for the GS-11 grade level if you possess one of the following: Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: Assisting with providing custody, management and disposition of seized and forfeited property by overseeing their receipt, security, transportation, and review of appraised value; Assisting with determining liens, quick-sale, storage, inventory, maintenance, modification, refurbishment, upgrade, and final disposition of seized and forfeited property. OR Education: A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.ORCombination of Education and Experience: A combination of successfully completed education and experience. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application.
