The position is located in the Veterans Administration (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), and VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Salem, VA.
Duties
Apply and mix the coating materials according to specifications and directions.
Grain metal doors and other surfaces to achieve a wood-like finish, to match existing surfaces; using graining combs, brushes and stippling rags.
Clean and spray beds, lockers, furniture, and other similar items. Incumbent will blend paint by mixing pigments to achieve specific colors for the purpose of spot painting and project selections.
Prepares surface of items and areas to be painted to assure a reduced painting frequency and a good appearance of the finished product. Incumbent accomplishes this by using spackling (lightweight and heavy), joint compound and applying it with putty knives, broad knives and trowels; then smoothing the finished surface with sandpaper.
Interpret work orders, comprehend what is read and be to Write legibly.
Zone Maintenance Shop Supervisor for the satisfactory completion of all assigned task.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:45AM-4:30PM or Monday-Friday 3:00PM TO 11:30PM

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Duties consist of sustained physical effort in painting, carrying and lifting tools or materials up to 100 pounds. Work also involves standing, bending, sitting, kneeling, and squatting. Incumbent is also required to exert a great amount of physical effort in erecting ladders, scaffolding, and swing stages.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is both in and out of doors and is, therefore, subject to weather extremes. There is continuous exposure to paint splatters, inhalation of harmful fumes in paints, hazards to eyes while chipping paint or rust, and falls when working at extreme heights. Incumbent is also subjected to communicable diseases while working on wards.
Valid State Driver's License: The position requires that the incumbent must possess a valid driver's license.
