Duties

This position is assigned supervisory, administrative, and technical duties associated with electronic, electrical, mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment maintenance, replacement, testing, calibration, troubleshooting and repair. The performance of these duties requires an effective working knowledge of the electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment, and proficiency in at least one of the above-mentioned areas. Supervises a crew size ranging from 6 to 10 members in the respective trades/crafts or other employees involved in multi-craft work project. As this position is primarily supervisory in nature, leadership and planning activities will encompass most working hours. On occasion, and as supervisory duties permit, may be called upon to demonstrate and perform craft duties, similar to the normal work assigned to other crewmembers, as dictated by workload requirements or supervisory direction. Coordinates work and maintains collaborative and open communications with internal and external agencies, customers and personal contacts. - Establishes deadlines, priorities and work sequences to meet overall work objectives and plans, and schedules and determines requirements for tools, equipment, and related materials and supplies. - Prepares schedules on a job-to-job basis for a broad range of activities and projects, which may require deviation from established schedules. - Coordinates maintenance schedules and system outages with other maintenance managers and staff to perform all operations, maintenance, repairs or replacements and assure broad integration of activities within the Area Office. - Ensures quality and quantity of materials and equipment are available and used and assigns the craft skill and number of employees necessary to perform work in the required time. - Coordinates repair and callout efforts when problems occur on critical equipment, including troubleshooting problem causes. - Directly supervises and oversees work accomplishments of all staff assigned to the crew, including other support and temporary staff. - Determines correct methods, procedures, and allowable tolerances in repairing and rebuilding mechanical components and features. - Assures compliance with agency policies and regulations, the negotiated labor agreement, and all other applicable laws and regulations. - Ensures labor and materials are correctly charged to appropriate work orders in the electronic time and attendance system. - Records information associated with job progress, overall project schedules, and equipment histories.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). Applicants eligible under the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) are not required to meet time-in-grade restrictions in order to be considered. You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including time-in-grade restrictions and any selective placement factors if applicable, by 09/13/2023.

Accreditation: Only education from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education is acceptable to meet education requirements or to substitute for experience, if applicable.
