Duties
Oversee and monitor facility Hazardous Waste and Regulated Medical Waste Compliance.
Conduct quality and control sampling for the drinking water program, recreational water sampling, pest surveillance program, food service sanitation inspection program, Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) program, and Hazardous Materials and Waste Program.
Annually prepare a water sampling plan using blueprints of the installation water distribution system and adjusts the plan as necessary.
Conduct inspections of food service establishments such as dining facilities, Army/Air Force Exchange Service and Morale Welfare Recreation establishments, Child and Youth Service facilities, mobile food establishments, carnival/concert food booths.
Report results of pest surveillance to installation pest control staff and other installation officials.
Review, update and inspect the hospital waste management and regulated medical waste program to ensure compliance with Army, Kansas/Missouri State, EPA, and OSHA standards.
Provide training on hazardous materials, hazardous waste, regulated medical waste, safety data sheet comprehension, and emergency spill responses.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical examination.
- May require wearing and utilizing appropriate protective clothing and equipment such as hardhats, respirators, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, etc.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid, State motor vehicle driver's license.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Identifying or analyzing a variety of situations concerned with the elimination and prevention of environmental health hazards and conducting a variety of water or food sanitation inspections, pest surveillance, or epidemiology surveys. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Environmental Studies, Epidemiology, Health, Agriculture, Biology, Physical Sciences or Public Health. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
