About the Position:
This position is located in Beaufort, South Carolina, Laurel Bay.
All candidates should reside within the local commuting area where the position is located. Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community. (5 CFR 575.203)
Duties
Determine the number of employees, equipment, facilities, materials, and tools needed at worksites.
Perform the full range of duties identical to those of subordinate employees such as maintenance on air conditioners, heating/boiler equipment, kitchen/bakery equipment, plumbing and electrical fixtures.
Read and interpret specifications and technical manuals in order to affect necessary repairs.
Maintain records of time and materials used on job and completes job orders.
Plan and lay out the work and the materials/supplies and equipment needed and the methods/techniques/procedures required.
Requirements
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- One year trial or probationary period may be required.
- Appointment subject to a suitability /fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
- One year supervisory probation period may be required.
- This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Must be able to operate a government vehicle within 45 days of the date of hire.
- Call-back and emergency overtime may be required of this position.
- Work may include assignment to first or second shift.
- Must be able to possess a Chloro-Fluoracarbon (CFC) certificate for working with refrigerants.

Physical Effort: Work requires frequent bending, standing, stooping, and reaching. Work may be performed from ladders or scaffolding and in cramped and uncomfortable positions. Regularly required to lift and carry parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Lifting equipment is available for heavy loads.
Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all types of weather. Is exposed to the possibility of electrical shock, broken bones, bums, cuts, and bruises and to injury from inhaling refrigerants. Subject to falls from ladders and scaffolding and to injury from accidents while operating a motor vehicle.
