Duties

Post-secondary student positions are provided opportunities for development and training. Assignments become more responsible as incumbent increases knowledge and skills through work experience and academic training. You will compile information or educational material in support of Navy Voluntary Education (VOLED) programs and answer inquiries of general nature regarding VOLED. You will correct discrepancies in student files for accurate record maintenance and ensure all transactions are properly documented. You will process Tuition Assistance documents and resolve problems or concerns to assist Sailors in meeting their academic or vocational goals.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management website: Education Student Trainee Series 1799 (opm.gov) This position may be non-competitively converted to an Education Services Specialist, GS-1740-07/09 career ladder position after meeting all regulatory requirements (including qualification requirements), and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

For the GS-5: Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.

For the GS-7: Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education; or Eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement Provision and completion of a bachelor's degree.

Post-secondary students being considered for initial appointments to positions leading to target positions with positive education requirements should be enrolled in directly-related degree programs in order to meet the OPM qualification requirements for the target position upon completion of their academic program.
