This position is located in theNPS Regional Office Serving Interior Regions 6,7 and 8, in the Cultural Resources Division. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately 11 months and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Duties

Serves as a subject matter expert on the identification, evaluation and assessment of condition of historic properties in the Intermountain west. Independently and as a team leader conducts condition assessments on park historic properties through site visits. Updates, completes and certifies records in CRIS HS and CL to ensure the NPS inventories reflect complete, accurate and reliable data. Consults with cultural resources professionals to keep informed of new developments, research, and appropriate documentation technologies. Develops and manages work plans and schedules, scopes of work, cost estimates, and budget proposals for historic preservation projects and/or grants to justify funding requests and accomplish goals; Performs other duties as assigned.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: All applicants must meet the basic education requirement for their discipline: GS-0170, GS-0807, GS-0808, AND the experience listed below. Please note: It is your responsibility to show how you satisfy the course requirements for the series(s) you are applying for. If you do not provide information that clearly shows how your completed college course work meets all of the requirements, you will be rated ineligible. Your rating will be based solely on the information you submit with your application. No attempts will be made to verify with you, or the school you attended, whether or not your course work meets all of the requirements. YOU MUST SUBMIT ALL YOUR COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS. Historian (Architectural) GS-0170: Degree: history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. -OR- Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Landscape Architect (Historical) GS-0807: Degree in landscape architecture or landscape design. -OR- Combination of education and experience. For each year short of graduation, you must have had 1 year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design. Architect (Historical), GS-0808: Degree in architecture or a related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least 30 semester hours were in architectural design, AND 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems. -OR- Combination of education and experience including college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, AND a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. AND To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Examples of specialized experience may include but is not limited to: applying principles, theories, concepts, methods, and techniques of preserving historic properties in accordance with relevant laws, policies and standards; identifying and evaluating the eligibility of historic properties (including cultural landscapes and historic buildings, structures and sites, and their component parts) for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places; developing approaches to treatment and management of historic properties and their physical attributes, systems, and use that are compatible and sensitive and aimed at retention of resource integrity and historical significance; engaging in research and planning for the stewardship of historic properties; communicating with park, regional, and service-wide staff, as well as partners, other professionals and the public on issues related to the preservation of historic properties; and conducting data collection, entry and management in service to Cultural Resources inventories and systems to ensure that data are complete, accurate and reliable. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least three years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in a field directly related to this position such as history, landscape architecture or architecture. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have six months of the specialized experience described (50% of the experience requirement), and 45 semester hours or 68 quarter hours of directly-related graduate level college study as defined above in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
