The purpose of this position is to supply a professional assistant teacher to provide a developmentally appropriate program for four-year-old pre-kindergarten students using the Bright From The Start Georgia Pre-K curriculum. This is a Flexible, 40 hour per week position, with no benefits. This position closely follows the Camden County School System calendar, 190 days of service (180 instructional and 10 pre/post training and/or staff training days).
Duties
Ensures children are being supervised at all times and teacher/child ratios are adhered to. Ensures instructional care is provided in compliance with Bright from the Start Georgia Pre-K guidelines, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) philosophy and OPNAVINST 1700.9E for the Child & Youth Program. Assists in planning and conducting an effective Pre-Kindergarten instructional program initiated by the Lead Teacher to meet the areas of language/literacy, math, science, music, art, and physical development of all program students based upon stated goals and a curriculum plan approved by the Child & Youth Program Director (CYPD) or designee and Bright from the Start. Reviews and implements daily schedules and activity plans. Arranges room and instructional materials to accommodate the daily schedule. Sets up displays and bulletin boards. Incumbent also performs child observations daily. Helps create games and play materials (i.e., mixing paints, play-dough, and assembling props for activities, etc.) and assists with developing a list of needed supplies and equipment for submission to the Lead Teacher. Receives students from parents and notes all special instructions which parents may provide. Maintains accurate attendance and count of students at all times. Conducts daily health checks of children. Notifies the Lead Teacher or CYPD or designee of any marks or other signs that might indicate a suspicion of illness, abuse, or neglect. Creates a pleasant, inviting atmosphere for the children. Ensures the safety and sanitation of children through constant supervision, effective arrangement of space and proper maintenance of equipment. Completes and submits required reports in accurate and timely manner. Participates in parent/teacher conferences as needed. Assists in supervising students during outside activities. Supervises student lunches and executes through family style dining. Helps children collect their belongings when they depart. Ensures that each child leaves with parent/guardian or authorized person. Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must satisfactorily complete all background checks for child care positions, including fingerprint checks, a Tier 1 with Child Care check, Tier 3 if applicable, and a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, be free of all communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases.
- Ability to sustain considerable walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to complete required training certificates, and maintain certifications or credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation institutions used as part of DoD's Child and Youth Programs.
- Participation in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer within the first 30 days of employment is required.
- Must possess a valid state driver?s license.

A qualified candidate possesses the following:
Be 18 years of age or older. Have experience working with children younger than five years of age. Possess proficient verbal and written communication skills. Be able to obtain food handlers card. Per SUBASE Medical Department, all CYP employees are now required to have an influenza shot each year as a condition of employment.
Education
A qualified candidate possess one of the following credentials/degrees listed below to meet the credential requirement for Pre-K assistant teachers:
? Valid Paraprofessional Certificate (issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission) ? Valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential (issued by the Council for Professional Recognition) ? TCC (Technical Certificate of Credit) in Early Childhood Education ? TCD (Technical College Diploma) in Early Childhood Education ? AA, AS, AAS, AAT (Associate Degree) ? Montessori Diploma (Montessori courses must be taken from an accredited affiliate of the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education [MACTE]) ? BA, BS (Bachelor's degree) ? Georgia PSC Certified Teacher ? MA, MS (Master's Degree) ? Specialist Degree or PhD.
