The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center is hiring an Electronic Industrial Controls Mechanic position in the Maintenance and Operations Section of Facilities Management Service located in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. The position works air conditioning units, electronic controls and boiler room equipment and all auxiliary equipment associated. The duties involve diagnosing, installing, modifying, repairing and replacing complex electronic controls, monitoring, and indicating systems and subsystems.
Duties
Major Duties:
Air Conditioning:
Installs, maintains, repairs, troubleshoots, and calibrates air conditioning equipment.
These duties are extended to the following equipment: building automation system, JCI Metasys system, two 300-ton screw type chillers, two 120-ton reciprocating chillers, eight 20- HP electric motors for two large HVAC units, four cooling towers, approximately 70 blowers and related air moving machinery and motors rated in HP from 75 to 1/4, approximately 21 water pumps and related machinery, piping and motors rated in HP from 25 to fractional, two 5-HP and two 10-HP air compressors and related pneumatic control equipment, six major motor control centers and electrical motors and associated controls and circuits, three steam-to-hot water converters and related heating equipment providing heat to the hospital through about 300 pneumatically and digital-controlled Variable Air Valve reheat induction units, eight steam supplied humidifiers providing humidity control for the hospital and two critical steam humidifiers for the SPS and Endo suite wings of the facility, three major varieties of variable volume air flow control systems which provide variable volume air for the majority of the hospital.
These systems include critical balancing of air flow for peak economy and climate control for procedure rooms.
This position is also responsible for the maintenance, repair and programming of all electronic devices that control all associated equipment.
Electronics:
Installs, maintains, reports, troubleshoots, and calibrates electronic controls and indicating and recording systems used in the Utility Systems Department.
The equipment the incumbent utilizes includes: the JCI Metasys Computer and associated data gathering panels TempTrak Square D; ABB; Mitsubishi; Honeywell; Yaskawa and DanFoss variable frequency motor control equipment; Carrier and Trane integrated circuit micro-processor chiller control systems; York Turbo-Modulator II micro-processor controlled variable frequency and logic control equipment; Honeywell SymmetrE Monitoring System.
Boiler Plant:
Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and calibrates heating and boiler room equipment.
These duties are extended to the following equipment: three 250 HP firetube high pressure boilers. These boilers are high pressure natural gas or oil fired boilers with a total generating capacity of 25,875 pounds of steam per hour; all auxiliary equipment associated with the boilers, such as: pumps, motors, heaters, tanks, economizers, water softeners, boiler combustion controls (pneumatic, electric, electronic), blow down equipment, air compressors, moisture separators, piping, gauges, meters, liquefied petroleum gas system, earthquake valves (gas shutoff), and high pressure valves. The incumbent maintains all equipment in working order and maintains a parts inventory for the equipment in order to reduce downtime.
Performs preventive maintenance with the aid of the Utility Systems Operators as outlined in VHA Boiler Plant Safety Device Testing Manual and Boiler Efficiency Improvement Manual.
Cleans the sump and fill tank disinfection and cleaned then re-disinfected then cleaning strainers.
Work Schedule: 8:00AM to 4:30PM Monday through Friday (excluding federal holidays)

Working Conditions: The incumbent works from ladders much of the time, and many times must work in areas of poor lighting and high noise level. Work is usually performed in well lit, heated, and ventilated areas however, many pieces of equipment require working outside, exposed to elements. The incumbent is also subject to injuries, such as electrical shock, cuts, and bruises, as well as burns, falling on ice, snow, or slippery surfaces. The incumbent is exposed to dust, grease, and soiling skin and clothing.
