The purpose of this position is to serve as a Foreman of the mechanic/pipefitting unit, directing journeymen, sub-journeymen and temporary employees.
Duties
Plans the use of workers, equipment, facilities; materials, and tools on a day-to-day basis or project-by-project basis;
Adheres to work priorities, project schedules and deadlines established by higher level supervisors;
Tracks and reports progress on work assignments;
Recommends changes to schedules, priorities, and work sequences as necessary and makes minor deviations in procedures or redirects resources under their control to overcome problems such as equipment failure, material delays, or unplanned absences;
Coordinates work with supporting or related work functions controlled by other supervisors;
Participates with superiors in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, budget requests, staffing needs, estimates, and recommendations as to scheduling projected work;
Determines which assignments can be done first and which must be delayed, considering skills and personnel available to do the work and the availability of materials and equipment required.
Assigns work to individuals, e0plains work requirements, methods, and procedures, and provides technical direction for difficult processes; Defines the standards of. quality and quantity to be met;
Reviews work while in progress or on completion and changes work plans, work assignments, and methods as necessary to effectively produce quality work while controlling cost as much as possible;
Investigates work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity, determines causes, and implements corrective actions within their authority;
Motivates subordinates to operate as an effective working unit.
Assures that equipm?ent and materials are ordered and received; Reports possible or actual work delays to their supervisors.
Schedules and approves leave of subordinates;
Sets standards of performance expected of subordinates, and. makes formal appraisals of the work?performance;
Supports and explains management problems to subordinates;
Recommends performance ratings, disciplinary actions, changes in performance standards, and the most suitable applicants for vacancies;
Advises s?bordinates on how to improve their performance;
Investigates grievances and complaints, resolves them informally through discussion with the employee and union representatives, and notifies.supervisors of those of sufficient importance and seriousness;
Ensures that subordinates observe regulations and rules on housekeeping, conduct and safety; Determines training needs of ?subordinates; Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinates;
Promotes station EEO policy; Maintains production reports and records; Periodically reviews position descriptions of subordinates for currency and accuracy; Provides yearly systematic internal review.
Work direction encompasses multi-craft: General Mechanic Pipefitter, Steam Fitting, Gas Fitter, Welding, Machinist, Plumbing, Sheet Metal, Pneumatics Repair, Hydraulics Repair, and High Pressure Gas Piping.
May perform the same non-supervisory duties as supervised for normal operational effectiveness. When performing non-supervisory duties, skills, and knowledge, physical effort and working conditions are the same as those of crafts supervised. Otherwise, works in an office and travels to and from work sites to assign, ??heck, and coordinate work.
Serves as a subject matter expert when reviewing construction blueprints and specifications to insure compliance with codes and standards.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: This position involves heavy work, with assistance by other employees or equipment, occasional lifting of 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
