About the Position: This position is located with the Fort Campbell Garrison. Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY & Clarksville, TN about 45 miles NW of Nashville. Both visitors & residents enjoy the shops & eateries of downtown Hopkinsville & Clarksville. The cost of living is lower than the average for all major U.S. cities.

Duties
Responsible for directing, synchronizing and coordinating public affairs support for all organizations on the installation.
Advise the Garrison Commander, Garrison Command team, Directors and staff on all matters involving public issues and the creation of communication policy.
Oversee effective internal information programs through the garrison newspaper, garrison website, Digital Garrison app and other internal communication media and forums.
Serve as the sole official spokesperson and representative for the Garrison Commander when dealing with the public or through news media at the national, regional and local levels.
Maintain effective working relationships with representatives of government, members of Congress, civic organizations and other agencies, and with representatives of the media and special interest groups.
Provide supervisory and leadership on technical and administrative supervision to subordinates within the Fort Campbell Public Affairs Office.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential.
- This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes:1) Assisting in the development of strategic plans for corporate communication/command information initiatives to influence internal/external audiences; 2) Writing and editing material such as, speeches, continuity scripts, narrative text, news articles, press releases and feature stories to be used for electronic, broadcast and print media; 3) Developing communication strategies for discrete issues/emergencies; 4) Coordinating work projects with staff in order to meet deadlines; and/or 5) Developing operational strategies in order to carry out public information, media relations, command information and community relation programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
