This position is located in the Business Office Branch, Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, NM. The primary purpose of this position is to perform lead and patient registration duties and eligibility services, which are the key points of interaction with patients to obtain, process demographic and insurance information for Alternate Resources, Purchase Referred Care, and Admissions. Incumbent reports to the Supervisory Health System Specialist.
Duties
Provides assistance and direction to co-workers ensuring all work assignments are distributed and completed.
Provides technical assistance to the Supervisor.
Makes day-to-day adjustments as necessary to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned work.
Reviews work of other employees, assuring accuracy, completeness and validity of work performed.
Participates and collaborates with the supervisor in the performance evaluation of team members.
Provides information to the supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignment, and recognition of outstanding performance and personnel needs.
Provides on-the job training.
Interviews patients, obtains and key-enters into RPMS database the complete and accurate pertinent patient demographic information to initiate a new health record and re-activates a retired or stored at the Federal Record Center (FRC).
Determines and establishes eligibility for patients seeking health care by verifying for alternate resources.
Identifies and verifies patients with 3rd party coverage and obtains appropriated forms related to visit.
Assists and initiates applications for alternate resources, admitting, and pre-admitting forms.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
GS-08 Grade Level:
1 year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service as described in the vacancy announcement. Examples of Specialized Experience: Provides counseling and assistance concerning beneficiary problems and related benefits that may be available under other programs such as Veterans Administration, Medicare, Medicaid, group insurance programs, local public programs, and/or private insurance. Experience communicating with individuals or offices orally of decisions to inquiries concerning status of claims, applications, or other actions pending approval or resolution. Has researched problems in the application process, provided consultation or training on enrollment for alternate resources; Experience making recommendations and/or decisions for eligibility. Experience leading employees, assuring work assignments are completed; distributed work assignments and review work assignments.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
