Duties
Establishes goals, priorities and work projects for all maintenance operations. Through subordinate supervisors, directs and coordinates the operation, repair, maintenance, construction and/or installation of machines, tools, equipment, buildings and grounds. Supervises and monitors these activities to assure conformance with agency policies, maintenance standards, planning and budget constraints. Responsible for a large operating budget and management of Building and Facility (B&F) projects. Must ensure all funds are properly and beneficially expended. Plans, develops and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs and effect greater utilization of labor and materials. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. OR Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Conducting surveillance activities over construction and maintenance operations performed by a variety of private contractors, including reviewing project plans and specifications for workability, informing contractors of construction and reporting requirements and supervising operations for conformance with project plans.
Performing maintenance or construction work, including estimating material and labor costs for a variety of construction or maintenance projects (such as construction or maintenance of brick, frame, structural steel, reinforced concrete and other type structures ranging from one-or-two story buildings to larger structures), directing actual work operations and maintaining appropriate contacts with the organization funding the project.
Experience in resolving difficult or technical problems which arise in connection with the operation of the Facility Department, which include experience in personnel management practices, the National Union Agreement, Local Supplemental Union Agreements and EEO requirements.
