This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Serves as Certified Nurse Practitioner at the Boston Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS), a geographically separated unit of the United States Military Entrance Processing Command (USMEPCOM).
Duties
Assists the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) with ensuring compliance of OSHA requirements and Privacy Act data protection standards, including USMEPCOM, Department of Defense (DOD) and applicable service regulations and directives.
Provides assistance to Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC)/Medical Technician Supervisor with efficient and accurate lab processing.
Performs applicant physical examinations and assists with applicant medical processing at the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS)
stations.
Ensures the confidentiality of applicants is respected and that professionalism is maintained at all times in the medical department.
Conducts complete face-to-face medical histories on applicants who have completed the prescreen process and have been authorized to
process.
Conducts medical procedures used to evaluate and determine military suitability.
Prepares electronic and non-electronic documentation used to assess the applicants mental and physical fitness for service in the military.
Performs physical inspections of previously qualified applicants to document their status for meeting standards at the time of actual enlistment on active duty and at any other time as required.
Requirements
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- May require up to 25% temporary duty travel to other MEPS to cover staffing shortages.
- Credentials must be submitted to HQ USMEPCOM Office of the Command Surgeon (MECS)and approved by the Command Surgeon or designee.
- Successful completion of applicable Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training is required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System
within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
- Occasionally may be required to work on Saturdays and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
- This position requires Influenza Vaccination.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION:
A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) positions, applicants must possess a graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position.Areas of specialties for positions include, but are not limited to, Acute Care, Anesthesia, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Allergy and Immunology, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory, or other specialties identified for the position.
Licensure:
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination(external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-12 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
Basic Requirements for the GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level: In addition to the mandatory license and education described above under Basic Requirements applicants must have at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.
