About the Position: This position is located at the South Florida Operations Office of the Jacksonville District in Clewiston, Florida. Clewiston, historically known as America's Sweetest Town, was incorporated in 1925 and occupies 4.57 square miles. Clewiston is centrally located in south Florida about 60 miles east of Fort Myers on the Gulf of Mexico and 60 miles west of Palm Beach on the Atlantic Ocean.
Duties
Assesses impact of invasive terrestrial plants and animal species on federal fee lands on the Okeechobee Waterway. .
Coordinates with Invasive Species Management Team biologists to mitigate impacts to SFOO operations because of terrestrial and aquatic treatment of invasive plants
Plans, and administrates approved annual and five-year operational management plans for, 1) Fish and Wildlife Management, and 2) Endangered Species Management and Recovery for manatee, gopher tortoise and other state and federal listed species.
Coordinates with the State of Florida and USFWS on manatee issues. Serves on the Manatee/Water Control Structures Task Force as POC for all manatee-related issues for the South Florida Operation Office
Manages environmental compliance program with the District Environmental Compliance program manager, the Environmental Review Guide for Operations process for operations and facilities , applicable NEPA compliance
Reviews and makes recommendations and comments on Environmental Assessments (EA) and Environmental Impact Statements (EIS). Coordinates environmental compliance activities with other departments, agencies, and entities as required.
Provides recommendations and comments to long-term planning, and management documents (Master Plan and Government Design Memorandums relative to the environmental stewardship program of the South Florida Operation Office (SFOO) assigned projects.
Establishes and maintains close contact and cooperative relations with other project staff and other government agencies who have an interest in the project?s environmental stewardship programs.

Basic Requirement for a Biologist:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience GS-09 : identifying, interpreting and evaluating a variety of environmental documents and gathering data for environmental assessments. Limited experience in coordinating with regulatory agencies on impacts to threatened and endangered species and environmental, water and air quality to obtain permits, approvals and or documentation ; 3) experience supporting development of scientifically sound monitoring, mitigation and/or adaptive management plans for operation, maintenance and/or construction activities; 4) experience supporting an environmental compliance program.
Specialized Experience GS-11: which includes 1) Experience in administering an environmental stewardship program at a multipurpose water resources project; 2) experience preparing environmental assessments and documentation of environmental consequences in compliance with environmental laws and regulations; 3) experience supporting completion of consultation with regulatory agencies for impacts to threatened and endangered species and environmental, water and air quality on multipurpose water resource projects to obtain permits, approvals and or documentation ; 4) experience supporting development of scientifically sound monitoring, mitigation and/or adaptive management plans for operation and maintenance activities at a multipurpose water resources project; 5) experience supporting an environmental compliance program at a multipurpose water resources project..
