THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: Combined Surface Maintenance Shop (CSMS), Windsor Locks, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard. Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard

Duties

Position to be filled upon the vacancy of the incumbent. JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to supervise workers directly or through subordinate leaders and/or supervisors in accomplishing the work of the function. Plans work operations of great scope, complexity, and administrative authority. Determines the sequence, priority, and time for the performance of particular operations within the limits of broad work schedules and time limits. The constructed occupation and nonsupervisory grade level which best reflects the nature of the overall work operations supervised is Allied Trades, WG-3401-10. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Plans use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Investigates work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes. Plans and establishes overall leave schedules. Performs the nonsupervisory work of the function as needed. Implements regulatory safety requirements and ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work assignments require light to moderate physical effort. Frequently lifts, carries, or otherwise handles items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally handles items greater than 40 pounds. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. Works in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping are required. Occasionally climbs and works in high places. WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed in an environment which is well lighted, heated, and ventilated. Some work may be performed under field conditions. Subject to normal hazards of the trade skills to include the possibility of cuts, bruises, scrapes, shocks, and broken bones, and serious burns.

  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
  • Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates that the candidate has the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; able to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 36 months of specialized experience in the following: Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to use all types of hand tools, and measuring equipment related to this occupational series. Experience demonstrating the ability to set up and operate machining tools and using hand tools to make or repair parts, tools, gauges, models, patterns, mechanisms and machines. Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to plan and organize the work of the assigned machine tool work organizations. Ability to meet deadlines. Knowledge of machine tool work functions. Ability to work with others. Ability to devise new methods. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): Warrant Officer: WO1 through CW2; Enlisted: E-7 through E-9 UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any unit within the state SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
