Qualifications

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Statistician, all grade levels. A. Degree: degree in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus. For GS-14: In addition to the basic education requirement stated above, applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-14 level: One year of appropriate professional experience that is in or directly related to the duties of the position to be filled is qualifying if it is equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service, and if it equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Examples of such experience may include: organize studies and assist in modeling complex problems and processes involving numerous variables, interactions, dependencies, and relationships to carry out reviews, analyses, management studies, and policy analyses; applying the methods and techniques of data reduction and descriptive statistics, including the appropriate use of measures of central tendency and dispersion; regression and curve fitting; frequency distributions; and statistical graphics (such as scatter diagrams, line graphs, and histograms) in order to report and forecast product costs and sales, to document management studies, and to provide technical support effectively present and defend recommendations to all levels of the organization on methods by which programs can streamline activities, contain costs, and optimize operations. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
