This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers.

Duties

Determine ratios of chemicals, cleaners, and charges used in solutions and pressure pots to properly and safely remove paint or clean aircraft parts. Determine extensive or precise nozzle openings and sweeping direction of blast for difficult internal or external surfaces without causing damages to work or injury to workers nearby. Use air blasting equipment such as angle/distance of the air nozzle to optimize the paint removal and cleaning process without structural damage to the aircraft part and/or components.

Requirements

  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • Must obtain and maintain Level IV Plastic Media Blasting certification in accordance with TM 1-1500-344-23-2, CCADR 350-11, and locally established certification process within 1 year of appointment to the position.
  • A pre-employment physical is required.
  • This position requires a personnel security background check - National Agency Credit Check with Inquiry (NACI).
  • Required to wear respiratory protective equipment in the performance of duties and be clean-shaven at all times. Required to wear protective clothing and equipment, i.e., breathing apparatus, gloves, ear plugs, and safety shoes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Sandblaster~ without more than normal supervision. Resumes will be reviewed for experience and/or training which provided skills and knowledge of the following operating and regulating air blasting equipment i.e., cabinet, portable or plastic chamber, to remove dirt, rust, foreign materials or layers of paint, etc., from a variety of rotary wing aircraft engines and components. Operating and adjusting air blasting equipment such as the angle/distance of the air nozzle to optimize the paint removal and/or cleaning process without structural damage to the aircraft item. Operating multistage parts cleaning line to remove carbon, rust, paint, and dirt from aircraft item. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves standing, stooping, and bending in awkward, positions, climbing, crawling for prolonged periods. Lifts and carries up to 35 pounds without assistance and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. Holds and lifts an air blasting hose weighing approximately 10 pounds for an extended period of time. Performs violent process while wearing suits that have an internal temperature of 95 degrees; it is not uncommon to lose 10-20 pounds over a few weeks in the summer. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside or outside in all types of weather. Exposed to noise, dirt and dust. Subject to falls, broken bones and bruises. Required to wear protective clothing and equipment, i.e., full suit, hood, breathing apparatus, gloves, ear plugs, and safety shoes, etc.
