About the Position: Serves as a Facility Operations Specialist with a variety of responsibilities to include operational maintenance, physical security, and safety of museum facilities and equipment involving historic buildings, museums and grounds.

Duties

Manages operational maintenance the condition of all facility components (e.g., historic buildings, museum, grounds, etc.), determining total operational maintenance requirements, and executing project priorities to provide optimum service. Submit and monitor progress of facility maintenance order to address repairs of electrical, plumbing, environmental control and HVAC systems, leaking roofs, etc. in order to maintain functional requirements and optimum appearance of the museum areas. Schedules facility maintenance work and coordinates with museum staff and installation/contracted maintenance or supervisory personnel for all work, including repairs, janitorial services, etc. Assists the curatorial staff with the maintenance and preservation of exhibit spaces and collections and as required, performs augmented custodial and cleaning services for the appropriate public facilities and staff work spaces. Supervises assigned / detailed military personnel as well as other civilian staff or museum volunteers involved with facility maintenance or repairs. Identifies operational supplies and equipment for purchase on a recurring basis and prepares operational and facility maintenance estimates, budgets, reports, records, and requisitions as necessary Serves as Physical Security Officer for museum facilities and coordinates physical security inspections with other agencies on the installation to maintain compliance program to include key control and alarm systems. Serves as Safety Officer for museum facilities and coordinates safety inspections with other agencies on the installation to maintain compliance program standards in safety and fire and maintains applicable records, reports, and evaluations.

To qualify for this position you must meet the qualification and/or education requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing and/or coordinating operational maintenance including evaluating the condition of all facility components (e.g., historic buildings, museum, grounds, etc.), determining total operational maintenance requirements, executing project priorities to provide optimum service to occupants, and submitting work order requests related to maintenance and repair of all facility components; maintaining physical security and safety compliance programs that include but are not limited to Intrusion Detection Alarm Systems, arms room operation, key control, safety/fire, and record keeping; and assisting with maintenance and preservation of exhibit spaces and collections. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-7). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Facilities ManagementFacilities Operations and MaintenanceFacilities Requirements Analysis and Planning Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
