Duties
This position serves as a Laundry Worker in the Linen Distribution Center within the Environmental Management Service at the Hines VA. The Laundry Worker receives clean linen from the Flatwork, Dry-Fold and Press Departments on linen carts, in baskets and on uniform racks, and places the linen on laundry trucks in a neat and orderly manner for later use.
- Completes linen orders at a specified time in order that truck delivery schedules will be met.
- All linen must be neatly stacked on carts, in baskets, or in racks and properly covered for protection while in transit.
- Ships uniforms by size, type and quantity on racks to the two exchanges as ordered by the Uniform Exchange Supply Clerks.
- Fills ward linen carts according to the daily quotas.
- Is responsible for the daily housekeeping in the Linen Distribution Center, performing duties such as maintaining floors, dusting, washing and maintaining linen carts, shelves, baskets and racks in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Sun-Sat, 6am-2:30pm, 7am-3:30pm, 3:30pm-12am, 10pm-6:30am

Physical Requirements: Employee must use proper body mechanics and coordination; must possess the strength and stamina for doing heavy physical tasks for long periods of time; and must be able to handle loaded carts weighing up to 700 pounds and lift loads over 50 pounds. Employee uses provided safety garments during the performance of all assigned duties.
Laundries are extremely noisy and usually hot and humid. Workers are exposed to noise, vibrations, and atmospheric conditions associated with a textile care setting. Requires continuous walking on concrete floors, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting. In the possibility of exposure to laundry from patients with contagious diseases, workers wear protective masks, gloves, and gowns.
