This position is located in the Division of Clinical Services, Radiology Services Branch, Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC), Shiprock Service Unit, Shiprock, New Mexico. The purpose of this position is to provide lead technical support in the daily functioning of the radiology department. Performing exams in CT, X-ray, while reviewing image quality and directing work assignments to carry out patient workload. Reports directly to Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist.

Duties

Direct Care: Performs computerized axial tomographic scanning of the head and/or body and provides assistance for procedures. Provides proper patient protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards related to radiographic examination. Schedules patients for examination, evaluates request for critical and/or emergency procedures and adjusts schedule to accommodate patients of a higher priority. Receives patient, explains procedure and transfers patient to table for examination. Responsible for quality control activities which include but not limited to making minor adjustment to equipment. Performs daily, monthly, yearly required calibration tests on CT scanners, X-ray rooms, and portable equipment, as well as recording appropriate equipment errors in the log. Recognizes equipment malfunctions and contacts appropriate CT, X-ray service engineer. Assists the supervisor in developing, establishing, and monitoring techniques and procedures fundamental to instituting and maintaining a radiographic quality control program. Lead Duties Distribute and balance the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization. Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials and supplies. Provide guidance to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Resolve simple, informal complaints of employees and refer others to supervisor Report to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems Provide information to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs. Provides in-service to new and current employees on established procedures, policies, and directives for each of the department's modalities. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): NOTE: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: (l) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency. All applicants, however, must meet the requirements below. Specialized Experience: For positions at GS-4 and above: Experience in the operation of diagnostic radiology equipment under the direction of radiologists or other medical officers to produce radiographic studies used in medical diagnosis and treatment. OR Education and Training: Qualifying educational programs for radiography and radiation therapy technology are available in accredited colleges, universities, hospitals, medical schools, or postsecondary technical or vocational schools. Education or training from programs based in hospitals must have been from those hospitals that were accredited at the time of the education or training by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals or by the American Osteopathic Association. Successful completion of a course for medical radiologic technicians in the Armed Forces is qualifying on a month-for-month basis up to the l year of specialized experience required for GS-5. CERTIFICATION: All applicants must be certified in general Radiologic Technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) (R). (A copy of your ARRT certification must be submitted with your application) In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Manages day-to-day adjustments following established priorities; makes minor adjustment to equipment; performs basic and complex computerized tomography studies; assures that work assignments of the department employees are carried out; operate CT scanner, X-ray equipment, and any ancillary equipment related to radiology; expertise in history taking. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
